Cocaine Seizure at Laredo Port of Entry

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) just made a massive bust at the Laredo Port of Entry, seizing over 190,000 ‘lethal’ doses of cocaine worth $6.8 million. The drugs were hidden in a truck delivering flowers at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.

The Sting

A 2018 T3 International tractor-trailer was flagged for inspection by a CBP officer, and a canine and non-intrusive inspection system examination turned up 211 packages containing 516.76 pounds of alleged cocaine. It’s a ridiculous way to try to smuggle drugs – hiding them in a shipment of roses.

Investigation Underway

Laredo Port of Entry Director Alberto Flores says the seizure highlights the dedication of CBP officers in keeping our borders and communities safe from illicit drug trafficking. Homeland Security Investigations special agents are now investigating the seizure. It’s just the latest in a string of busts at the border, where officers also recently apprehended a fugitive wanted for alleged child sex crimes.
