Wrestling Whiz Kid Lilly White Dominates Sectional
SportsLilly White’s Big Win
Bartlett’s Lilly White just schooled the competition, taking home the 130-pound championship title at the Schaumburg Sectional. White, a senior, defeated Glenbard North’s Keagan Edwards with a 4-0 decision, proving she’s a force to be reckoned with.
From Disappointment to Dominance
Last season, White finished outside of the medal round at state – a tough pill to swallow. But she didn’t let that setback define her. Instead, she used it as fuel to come back stronger. ‘I took that to heart,’ she said. ‘I spent the entire offseason training and fine-tuning everything.’ It’s clear that hard work paid off.
White’s coach, Brian Caputo, couldn’t sing her praises enough. ‘Lilly is a one-of-a-kind athlete,’ he said. ‘Everything she does is about being the best possible wrestler.’ And it shows. White’s record now stands at 117-14, with a current season record of 36-3.
A True Leader
But White’s impact goes beyond her own wins. She’s also a team player who’s helped her teammates improve. Sophomore Melanie Nava credited White with helping her qualify for the sectional. ‘She’s loving, smart, and a very kind-hearted person,’ Nava said. ‘She shows it every single practice. She pushes herself and pushes all of us to be better.’
So what’s next for White? She’s got her sights set on the state meet, which kicks off on February 27. And with her current momentum, she’s looking like a strong contender. As she said, ‘I want to see myself on that podium.’ We can’t wait to see what she does next.
