White Sox Hitters Off to Strong Start in Spring Training
SportsSpring Training Heats Up for White Sox
Derek Shomon, the Chicago White Sox hitting coach, is impressed with Munetaka Murakami’s work ethic. ‘Worker’ is the first word that comes to mind when describing the new player, says Shomon. Murakami doesn’t shy away from hard work and is very clear about wanting to utilize all the resources available to him.
Murakami’s Strong Start
Murakami has been getting acclimated after spending the last eight seasons with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Shomon says Murakami came in with an ideal attitude and has a smart approach to the game. He’s been attacking his weaknesses on a daily basis and being intentional with his work, which makes it easier for the coaches.
Other players, such as shortstop Colson Montgomery and catcher Edgar Quero, have also been making a strong impression. Quero had a standout game with two singles, one double, and four RBIs in a recent Cactus League game.
Shomon’s Message to the Team
Shomon’s message to the team is to continue the good work they did last year and stay ahead of the game. He emphasizes the importance of adjusting to the game’s challenges and being able to respond in a timely fashion.
Outfielder Everson Pereira has been dealing with a setback due to tightness on his right side, but Shomon is optimistic about his potential. Pereira has been working on his contact issues, and Shomon believes he can make a big impact when he’s healthy.
Newcomer Luisangel Acuña has also been making a strong impression, with a double in a recent game. Shomon says Acuña has made some noticeable adjustments and is hoping they will translate to game performance.
Veteran Players Leading the Way
Veteran outfielders Austin Hays and Andrew Benintendi have been beneficial in a variety of ways, says Shomon. He calls them his ‘AARP boys’ and values the experience and guidance they can offer to the younger players.
