A 4-year-old kid showed up alone for heart surgery, and you’ve got to wonder what kind of parent does that. But Dr. Jason Cole, the kid’s cardiologist, isn’t one to judge. Instead, he and his wife Amy did what any decent human would do – they took the kid in.

A Life-Saving Decision

According to Cole, the kid, True, is alive today because of their kindness. It’s a pretty simple equation: no parents + decent doctor = kid lives. You don’t need a medical degree to figure that one out. What’s not so simple is how a kid ends up at a hospital by himself in the first place.

Cole’s wife, Amy, and their friend Ryan, basically became True’s temporary parents. It’s not every day you see people stepping up like that, and it’s a pretty sad commentary on the state of parenting these days.
