Parks on Fire: Washington Township’s Winning Streak
SportsWashington Township’s Hot Streak
Connor Parks is on a tear, and so are the Washington Township Senators. With eight straight wins under their belt, they’re looking to keep it going in the postseason. Parks, a 6-foot-2 guard, has scored at least 20 points five times during this streak.
Parks’ Surge
Parks credits his teammates for his success, saying they’ve been finding him open and he’s been knocking down shots. He’s averaged 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.7 steals this season. Not bad for a guy who was 5-7 as a sophomore.
Coach Scott Bowersock says Parks has worked hard over the past two years, and it’s paid off. ‘He’s someone that’s worked tremendously hard… his confidence came when he hit his growth spurt,’ Bowersock said. ‘He’s realized he doesn’t need a lot of space to shoot over people.’
Looking Ahead
The Senators face Hammond Academy in the first round of the Class 1A Kouts Sectional on Wednesday. They won the regular-season matchup 63-25, so they’re feeling pretty good about their chances. But to win the sectional title, they’ll likely have to take down Marquette and undefeated Kouts.
Parks is optimistic, though. ‘We’ve played together since we were in first grade,’ he said. ‘Our chemistry is always on point. We know what each other is thinking.’ Let’s see if they can keep it going and make some history.
