The Badlands Hold Me as I Grieve

I’m stuck in the Badlands, and it’s where I’ve been since I lost my family. It’s a harsh place, but it’s home now. Every bird I see, I swear it’s one of them – a dead relative, flying around, watching me.

Finding Solace in the Desert

It sounds ridiculous, I know. But when you’re grieving, you don’t think straight. You’ll cling to anything that makes you feel like you’re still connected to the people you’ve lost. For me, it’s these birds. I won’t say it’s helping, but it’s something.

Don’t get me wrong, the Badlands aren’t all bad. The sunsets are nice, I guess. But they’re not nice enough to make me forget what I’ve lost. Nothing is. It’s just me, the birds, and this endless desert.
