Australia Grants Asylum to Iranian Soccer Players

Tony Burke, Australia’s Home Affairs Minister, announced that two more members of the Iranian women’s soccer team got asylum just before their teammates left the country. It’s not like they had a choice – going back to Iran wouldn’t have been a great idea.

Australia to the Rescue

Now that they’re safe in Australia, these soccer players won’t have to worry about facing who-knows-what back home. And let’s be real, it’s not like Iran’s government is known for being super welcoming to women who don’t conform to their expectations.
