Death Penalty Off the Table

A federal judge just made life a lot easier for Luigi Mangione, the guy accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The judge dropped two of the charges against him, which means he won’t be facing the death penalty.

The Charges

It’s worth noting that Mangione is still in a whole lot of trouble – he’s just not staring down the barrel of a lethal injection anymore. The case against him is still pretty damning, but it’s not like he’s getting off scot-free or anything.

Let’s be real, it’s not like the guy’s getting a free pass. He’s still accused of killing someone, and that’s not something you just walk away from. But hey, at least he won’t be dying for it – that’s something, right?
