It’s official: the U.S. and Russia are no longer bound by any nuclear arms treaty. For the first time in over 50 years, there are no limits on the world’s two largest atomic arsenals. Great, just what we needed – more ways to destroy the planet.

What’s at Stake

The expiration of the New START treaty has arms control advocates freaking out, and for good reason. Without any limits, both countries can build up their nuclear stockpiles as much as they want. It’s a recipe for disaster, and it won’t take long for things to escalate.
