Redistricting Shenanigans

Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) isn’t messing around – he’s filed for reelection as an independent in the redrawn 6th Congressional District. Why the switch? California’s redistricting measure, which voters backed last year, allowed the state to bypass its independent redistricting commission and pass a new Democratic-friendly House map. It seems Kiley doesn’t like his chances in the new 3rd District he currently serves.

A Sour Grapes Move?

It’s not like Kiley’s been given the boot or anything, but he’s clearly not thrilled about the new district lines. By running as an independent, he’s trying to increase his odds of winning. Will it work? That’s anyone’s guess. What’s certain is that California’s redistricting mess has created a whole lot of drama, and Kiley’s move is just the latest twist.
