Researchers handed crystals to a group of chimps to see if they’d share our obsession with the shiny stuff. Because, why not? It’s not like they’re busy running a newspaper or something.

It’s a pretty ridiculous study, but hey, someone’s gotta do it. The goal is to figure out why humans are so into crystals. Is it the sparkles? The supposed healing powers? Or do we just like collecting pointless rocks? The chimps, it seems, are equally baffled.

So, what did the researchers find out? Well, it’s not like the chimps started a crystal-themed amusement park or anything. But they did seem to enjoy playing with the shiny objects. Who doesn’t, right?
