DC Cop Shot in Apparent Ambush: 2 Arrests Made
CrimeShots Fired in Southeast DC
A US Park Police officer was shot Monday night in what looks like an ambush in southeast Washington, DC. The officer, who’s lucky to be alive, was investigating an incident in an unmarked Tesla when two armed men approached and opened fire.
Arrests Made
Police didn’t waste time – they arrested 21-year-old Darren encourage just after the shooting, and 22-year-old Asheile encourage (no relation, presumably) the next day. Both are charged with assault on a federal police officer with a gun. It’s not clear what their motive was, but cops think they knew they were targeting a cop.
The officer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was able to drive away from the scene before getting medical help. He’s since been discharged from the hospital.
Investigation Ongoing
The case is now in the hands of the MPD’s NIBIN Investigations Unit, which includes agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and USPP detectives. They raided a home near the shooting location on Tuesday, with guns drawn and a K-9 unit in tow.
