Deputies Save Choking Baby in Crazy Roadside Rescue
CrimeDeputies Spring into Action
A 2-week-old baby’s frantic parents made a desperate 911 call after their newborn started choking in the car. It’s a nightmare scenario that no parent wants to face. The call came in around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, and deputies in Arizona didn’t waste any time.
A Rapid Response
Deputies rushed to find the car, and when they did, they jumped into action. Bodycam footage shows them sprinting towards the vehicle as the father rushed out holding the baby. The dad had been trying to save his child, performing infant CPR and back blows for about 15 minutes. He managed to get the baby to cry briefly, but the little one was still breathing raggedly.
Lifesaving Care
A deputy quickly took the baby and started giving it lifesaving care. After some small chest compressions, another deputy suggested turning the infant over. Then, the deputy delivered some firm back slaps, which cleared saliva from the baby’s airway and got it crying again. It was a tense few minutes, with the baby repeatedly going limp and stopping crying. The deputy had to keep stimulating the baby to keep it breathing until the firefighters and paramedics arrived.
A Happy Ending
The baby was rushed to a hospital in Prescott Valley for oxygen treatment and later transferred to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Luckily, it’s made a full recovery and is back home. Sheriff David Rhodes praised the response, saying it’s every parent’s worst nightmare. He’s right – it’s a terrifying situation. But thanks to the deputies’ quick thinking and training, the story has a happy ending. It’s a reminder that CPR training is crucial – it can mean the difference between life and death.
