Former Louisiana Mayor Guilty of Sex with Minor

Misty Roberts, the 43-year-old former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, has been found guilty of having sex with a minor. It’s a pretty straightforward case – her own son caught her in the act with his friend at a booze-filled pool party.

The Evidence Mounts

Prosecutors presented a slew of evidence, including text messages between Roberts and her son discussing the party, and a series of photos showing Roberts posing with the victim. The victim himself took the stand, telling the jury he was drunk when he and Roberts had sex.

Roberts’ defense team tried to poke holes in the investigation, but it’s hard to argue with the sheer amount of evidence against her. Her own kids even testified against her – her daughter said she saw her mom and the victim ‘on top of each other’ at the party.

A Sorry State of Affairs

Roberts’ ex-husband testified that she admitted to having sex with the teenager, and even asked him to deny it if anyone asked. It’s a pretty ridiculous case, and it’s hard to feel sorry for someone who threw parties with booze and minors, then had sex with one of the guests.

Roberts is out on a $100,000 bond and will be sentenced on April 17. She’s facing up to 10 years in prison for carnal knowledge and up to 7 years for indecent behavior. She’ll also have to register as a sex offender.
