Hegseth’s Half-Measure

Defense Secretary Hegseth just struck a deal with Scouting America, and it’s a real head-scratcher. Girls are allowed to join for now, but the organization’s had to ban Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Because, you know, that’s exactly what’s been missing from scouting: less inclusivity.

The Transgender Question

When announcing the agreement, Hegseth took a swipe at Scouting America for welcoming transgender kids. But he stopped short of saying they’d be outright denied entry. It’s a classic move: criticize the organization without actually doing anything about it. Don’t expect a clear answer on this anytime soon.

It’s a ridiculous situation, and it’s not like Hegseth’s deal is going to fix everything. But hey, at least girls can still join. For now, that is.
