Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance: Sheriff Warns of Repeat Attack
CrimeNancy Guthrie’s Disappearance: A Threat to Public Safety
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos warns that the suspect behind Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance could strike again, posing a continuing threat to public safety. It’s been 40 days since the 84-year-old vanished, and Nanos is offering few new details about a possible motive.
A Targeted Attack?
Nanos says he has an idea of the motive but won’t share it publicly. He does admit that investigators believe the attack was targeted, but they’re not 100% sure. This means anyone could be at risk, and Nanos isn’t sugarcoating it.
‘Criminal minds are criminal minds,’ he told NBC. ‘When the sheriff says investigators believe they know the motive but won’t share it, there’s an investigative reason,’ said Jason Pack, a retired FBI supervisory agent. ‘This is it: You don’t hand the suspect a roadmap of what you know.’
Investigation Update
Guthrie’s front doorbell camera is missing, but her phone and Apple watch were left behind. Authorities have been unable to recover any video from her other home security cameras. The FBI and Google did manage to recover some footage from her front door showing a masked man with a gun, but he hasn’t been identified.
A mixed DNA sample sent to a private lab has also yielded no results. Federal law enforcement sources say it provided only a partial profile that was insufficient for the FBI’s database of known offenders.
