Napoli Falls to Como in Italian Cup Stunner
SportsComo Pulls Off Massive Upset
Como just advanced to the Italian Cup semifinals for the first time in 40 years, and they did it by taking down the reigning Italian champion Napoli in a penalty shootout. Jean Butez, Como’s goalkeeper, made the save of the night, stopping Stanislav Lobotka’s shot and sending his team into raptures.
A Back-and-Forth Match
The game had ended 1-1 after regular time, with Martin Baturina putting Como ahead with a penalty kick in the 39th minute. But Antonio Vergara equalized for Napoli just after halftime. Napoli had a few close calls, including a header from Amir Rrahmani that was cleared off the line in the second half.
It wasn’t a great night for some of the big guns, either – Romelu Lukaku missed his penalty kick for Napoli, and Máximo Perrone did the same for Como. But in the end, it was Como who emerged victorious, winning the shootout 7-6.
This is a big deal for Como, who haven’t been to the semifinals in decades. And it’s a bit of a shock for Napoli, who have won the Italian Cup six times, most recently in 2020.
