NYPD Officer Suspended After Off-Duty Shooting
CrimeNYPD Officer in Hot Water
A New York City cop assigned to Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s security detail has been suspended without pay after shooting a guy in the head while off duty. Yeah, that’s not exactly the kind of thing you want to hear about a guy tasked with keeping the mayor safe.
The shooting went down Monday night in the Bronx, and apparently, it was over a stolen car. The officer, who hasn’t been named, got into it with some guys, and things escalated quickly. The victim, a 30-year-old man, is in critical condition.
Investigation Underway
The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is looking into the shooting, but so far, the officer hasn’t been arrested or charged. That could change, though. A spokesperson for the NYPD said the department is still figuring out what happened.
The mayor’s office hasn’t commented on the situation, which isn’t surprising. What are they gonna say, ‘Hey, our security guy is a loose cannon?’ Probably not.
A bar near the shooting scene got hit by a stray bullet, but thankfully, nobody inside was hurt. The manager, Ada Gomez, said it was a close call – if someone had been sitting in the window, they could’ve been killed.
