Packers Lock In Top Brass With Multi-Year Extensions
SportsPackers Commit to Current Leadership
It’s official: Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball are sticking around, thanks to multi-year contract extensions. They’re joining coach Matt LaFleur, who’s already on board for the long haul.
A Vote of Confidence
Packers President and CEO Ed Policy announced the extensions, citing the trio’s “steadfast dedication, passion and collaboration” as key reasons for the decision. It’s hard to argue with the results: the Packers have made the playoffs in six of the last seven years, including a 9-8-1 record this season.
LaFleur’s got a solid track record, with a 76-40-1 regular-season record and playoff appearances in all but one of his seven years on the job. Gutekunst and Ball have been instrumental in shaping the team’s roster, including some bold moves like trading up for Utah State quarterback Jordan Love and swapping Aaron Rodgers for Jordan Love as the starter.
Making Moves
Gutekunst’s made some big calls, like the 2025 trade that brought All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to Green Bay. It was a pricey move, with the Packers giving up their 2026 and 2027 first-round draft picks, but Parsons is a game-breaker when healthy. Too bad he got hurt and missed the rest of the season.
It’s clear the Packers are committed to their current leadership, and they’re willing to make some big bets to bring home a championship. We’ll see if it pays off.
