It’s Crunch Time

The House Rules Committee just advanced a funding bill to reopen the government, setting up a nail-biting vote on the House floor. The committee voted 8-4 along party lines, because of course they did.

The Bill

The legislation, which passed the Senate last week, is a so-called minibus of funding measures. It’s a Band-Aid on a bullet wound, but it’s something. House Republican leadership is scrambling to get the votes they need to pass it.

It’s not like they have a lot of wiggle room, either. The vote is expected to be tight, and if it fails, the shutdown will drag on. Because that’s exactly what the country needs – more gridlock.
