Olympic Upset

Madison Chock and Evan Bates, the U.S. ice dancing duo everyone expected to take home gold, won’t be leaving the Olympics with the top prize. Instead, they’re taking silver, and it’s a shock.

Controversy on Ice

The French duo that beat them out for gold has been clouded in controversy over their past partnerships, but that didn’t seem to faze them. Chock and Bates, four-time Olympians and heavy favorites, lost by less than two points. It’s a stunning upset, to say the least.

Don’t expect Chock and Bates to be too disappointed, though. They’ve had an impressive run, and silver is nothing to sneeze at. But it’s hard not to wonder what could’ve been if they’d skated just a fraction of a point better.
