Slop Bowls Lose Their Luster
FoodSalad Bowl Sales Slump
Restaurant chains like Cava, Chipotle, and Sweetgreen are taking a hit as sales and traffic plummet. It’s no surprise, really – who wants to pay top dollar for a bowl of greens and grains? Consumers are getting tired of overpriced salad bowls, and it’s showing in the numbers.
Rising Prices, Falling Demand
The problem is simple: these chains are charging too much for what essentially amounts to a fancy bowl of lettuce. And don’t even get me started on the ‘ premiums’ they’re trying to pass off as ‘artisanal’ this or ‘small-batch’ that. It’s just not cutting it with customers, who are voting with their wallets and staying away.
It’s not like people have stopped eating out altogether – they’re just being more mindful of where they spend their cash. And if that means skipping the $15 salad bowl, so be it. These chains need to wake up and smell the kale chips: people won’t pay an arm and a leg for a meal that’s just, well, a bunch of stuff in a bowl.
