Oklahoma’s about to get a new senator, courtesy of Trump’s latest DHS secretary pick. Governor Stitt’s already making promises to appoint a ‘strong, small government conservative voice’ to support the president. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the country needs – more partisan gridlock.

A Vacancy in Deep-Red Oklahoma

Stitt’s statement on Thursday made it clear: he’s looking for someone who’ll toe the Trump line. It’s not like Oklahoma’s senate seat was up for grabs or anything (it was always going to be a safe Republican seat), but now it’s officially a vacancy. Don’t expect any surprises here – it’s gonna be a conservative, through and through.

What’s next? Well, Stitt’s got his work cut out for him. He’s gotta find someone who won’t make a total fool of themselves in the senate. No pressure, though. It’s not like the entire country’s watching or anything.
