Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum is reigniting a ridiculous push to acquire Greenland, claiming it’s a strategic goldmine for the US economy and national security. It’s a move that’s raising eyebrows, to say the least.

A ‘Vital Asset’?

Burgum’s argument is that Greenland’s geographic location makes it a vital asset for protecting North America. But let’s be real, it’s about the minerals. The US is in negotiations over a deal on mineral rights, and Burgum won’t let up. ‘If you look at it geographically, it’s positioned like the end cap opposite of Alaska,’ he said. ‘It’s like the ultimate buffer zone.’

It’s not the first time the US has tried to buy Greenland. Trump infamously made a similar push back in 2019, and it was met with laughter from, well, everyone. It’s unclear what makes Burgum think this time will be different.
