West Aurora’s Hot Streak Ends with a Thud
SportsWest Aurora’s Winning Streak Comes to an End
Drew Lundberg, the 6-foot-4 senior forward, scored all 14 of his points in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for West Aurora. The team, which won the Upstate Eight West championship, lost 74-55 to Glenbard East.
A Game of Two Halves
Lundberg’s hot hand in the first half gave West Aurora a 35-30 lead at halftime, but the team failed to capitalize on their chances in the second half. Glenbard East’s Michael Nee scored 17 of his 30 points in the second half, leading his team to a comeback victory.
It’s clear that West Aurora’s lack of focus in the second half cost them the game. As coach Michael Fowler said, ‘We struggled with sustaining our scoring. We were coming down and missing twos and they were going back and making 3-pointers. That’s not a good combination, and that’s the mess we got ourselves in.’
A Lesson Learned
West Aurora’s Travis Brown offered some perspective on the game, saying, ‘I figured he had the hot hand, you keep going to it. You attack and you get it to him. He produced very well, but you’ve got to keep getting it to him and we lost it.’ It’s a lesson the team will need to learn quickly, as they host a Class 4A regional next week.
